Halloween Face of the Day
Even though I don't have fun plans this Halloween (aside from cheering on my Phillies in Game 3 of the World Series), I decided to have a little fun with my makeup. Here's the recipe:
1) Apply Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation Primer to moisturized face
2) Apply Make Up For Ever HD Foundation using the Beautyblender sponge
3) Using short strokes, use Diorshow Brow Styler to fill in brows
4) Apply Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (Original) to entire lid and to under lower lash line
5) Using MAC 242 Shader Brush, apply a nude, matte eyeshadow (one that matches your eyelid) to lid - from lash line to brow bone; I used MAC Soft Brown
6) Line the top inner rim of the eye with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero
7) Using Zero Eye Pencil, line the upper lash line - curving the line at the outer corner - to create a "cat eye"
8) Using Stila #7 Precision Crease Brush, apply the darker shade from MAC Mineralize Eye Shadow Duo in Midnight Madness to the crease and outer corner of the eye
9) Blend the eyelid using MAC 217 Blending Brush
10) Using MAC 266 Small Angle Brush, line the lower lash line with MAC Paint Pot in Delft
11) Apply MAC Pigment in Teal on top of the Paint Pot line, using MAC 219 Pencil Brush
12) Blend the lower lash line using MAC 217 Blending Brush
13) Coat upper lashes with Lancome Hypnôse Drama Mascara in Excessive Black
14) Apply MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Cheeky Bronze to cheekbones using EcoTools Bamboo Powder Brush
15) Apply Estee Lauder Pure Color Gloss Stick in Nude Almond to lips
16) Apply MAC Dazzleglass in Phiff! on top of lipstick

Alicia Keys World Series Makeup
To get the ball rolling for Game Two of the World Series in the Bronx, Alicia Keys stepped up to the plate with Jay-Z, hitting it out of the park with an "Empire State of Mind" tribute to New York and the Yankees.
Ashunta says, "The inspiration behind Alicia’s look was retro 1980s hip hop Harlem meets Brooklyn – when matching lip color to clothing color was very popular. The eyes were smoldering and the skin bronzed to accent the amazing lip color."
Celebrity makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff created a glam look for the superstar which she achieved with the help of some favorite Mary Kay products. To create Alicia’s all-star look, Ashunta Sheriff used:
* Mary Kay Tinted Moisturizer in Beige 2 and Mary Kay Concealer in Beige 2 to get Alicia’s beautiful face looking flawless
* Mary Kay Mineral Cheek Color in Bold Berry and Mary Kay Mineral Bronzing Powder in Dessert Sun to give Alicia’s cheeks a glowing, natural look
* Mary Kay Creme Lipstick in Pink Melon and Mary Kay NouriShine Lip Gloss in Pink Diamonds to attain the desired effect on the focal point of the entire look – Alicia’s lips
* Mary Kay Mineral Eye Color in Raisin on Alicia’s eyes to help accentuate Alicia’s stunning features and natural beauty
The overall affect was a hip hop beauty home run.

Taraji P. Henson Should Fire Her Makeup Artist
It's rare that I see Taraji P. Henson looking less than on point. So I was befuddled when I saw this recent photo from the 13th Annual Hollywood Film Festival Awards Gala.
Taraji needs to fire her makeup artist, stat, for letting her leave the house without wiping away the excess powder under her eyes. Of course, some of the blame lies with Taraji, for not consulting a mirror before walking the red carpet.
Lipstick on your teeth, I can understand. But there is no excuse for a makeup mistake like this.

Best Beret
Every time it gets just a little bit chilly, I rock this knit beret. And every time it's on my head, I get stopped by strangers - asking me where they can go buy their own.
Since I'm sharing my shopping secrets with just about everyone who crosses my path, I thought I might as well post on here too. The hat is from H&M, it comes in black and magenta, and it cost around $6.
I own about 20 berets (Mama Spoiled Pretty is a fan too, and introduced me to them at age 4) - and this one is, by far, my favorite. Its chic slouchiness instantly transforms me into a hipper version of myself.

Bobbi Brown Extreme Party Mascara
This November, Bobbi Brown introduces her new Extreme Party Mascara – the first ever all-day layer-able mascara!
"For women who want the dramatic look of false lashes without the hassle." – Bobbi Brown
Why is it different? Thanks to Bobbi’s new "re-activation" formula, each new coat of Extreme Party Mascara remains as clean and buildable as the first - whether you choose to go bolder right away or ten hours later.
* Between fresh coats, lashes stay separated and soft.
* Lashes continue to get thicker and bolder without clumping or flaking every time you want to layer on more volume and length.
* Tapered, two-fiber brush grabs even small, hard-to-reach lashes.
* Dries fast to a smudge-proof, flake-proof finish.
* Enriched with Vitamins A, C and E.
* Ophthalmologist and dermatologist-tested. Safe for contact wearers.
* Removes easily with eye makeup remover or face soap and water.
Extreme Party Mascara is available in black from bobbibrown.com and Bobbi Brown counters now.

Required Reading: People Style Watch
Have I told you lately that I love People Style Watch?
At the end of every month, I anxiously scour bookstores and newsstands in search of the latest issue. Don't get me wrong, I love Vogue and Elle...but once in a while, I want to flip through the pages of a magazine and see some clothes that I can actually afford.
People Style Watch is, basically, a shopping guide to beauty, fashion and celebrity style. They spotlight the trends that celebrities are wearing, buying and loving right now and make it easy for readers to get the looks.
The November 2009 issue is so chock full of zippers, leopard print, grommets, chains and studs that I almost lost my damn mind. I'm seriously considering hiding my Visa card from myself, in a feeble attempt to protect my bank account.

Mario Dedivanovic's TWIPs of the Day
My pal, celebrity makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic, has a great new column over on his blog. Every day, he takes readers to beauty school - sharing ingenious beauty tips and product recommendations.
For a precise and very defined crease, Mario suggests using Sephora's Nano Eyeliner to draw a line right on or under the crease. With a small brush, blend the line going up and/or out. Keep it in place with a touch of translucent powder.
To steal the sexy nude lip Mario gave Kim Kardashian for her birthday, use MAC Ravishing Lipstick, topped with MAC Lipglass in Florabundance.
For natural looking skin, Mario recommends Smashbox Sheer Focus Tinted Moisturizer.
Visit Mario's blog for more morsels of makeup tips...and check back daily. Homeboy is a makeup wizard of Harry Potter proportions.

Makeup Mondays With Mario: Chiseled Cheekbones
Hi Mario,
I have no cheekbones...like, at all. How do I create the illusion of them with makeup? If this helps, I have a long face, moderate/small facial features and red undertones w/ a medium-brown complexion. Thanks!
-Melonie
Hi Melonie,
Thanks for visiting!
To create the illusion of cheekbones, you will need a few products. This is one of my favorite "steps" in a makeup application because it looks great on almost every face. Start out using a matte bronzer a few shades darker than your skin. Apply the bronzer with a brush onto the hollows of your cheeks blending towards the center of the ear. Sweep a highlighter (a golden sheer, shimmery shade) right above the bronzer or on top of the cheekbone. The area with the highlight will pop out and the hollows will appear deeper, creating the illusion of cheekbones. To prevent a ruddy or messy look on the skin, be sure to powder first.
xo,

Urban Decay's 24/7 Super Stash
Even if you already own every single one of Urban Decay's cult classic 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils (like me), I insist that you purchase their new 24/7 Super Stash. Why? Well, if you're addicted to these eye pencils like I am, you won't be able to live one more day without the four NEW shades included in this set.
24/7 Super Stash includes nine mini-sized 24/7 Eye Pencils:
Zero (black)
Oil Slick* (black sparkle)
Corrupt* (brown sparkle)
Eldorado* (a new gold)
Graffiti (bright medium green with silver sparkle)
Binge* (navy)
Ransom (bright iridescent purple)
Rockstar (darkest eggplant)
Stash (dark green/gold)
The Oil Slick pencil, alone, is worth the price of admission. I've been rocking it every single day since I got this kit.

E! News-worthy Interview: Giuliana Rancic Q&A
As you probably know, I follow celebrities like it's my J-O-B. As such, E! News is must see TV in my house; Mr. Spoiled Pretty and I have an understanding that he is not allowed to touch the television remote between 7 and 7:30pm. So you can imagine how thrilled I when I recently got the chance to chat up Giuliana Rancic!
Giuliana has been anchor and managing editor of E! News since January 2005; and since that time, viewership has risen over 50 percent! In addition to her news anchoring duties, she often hosts red carpet events like the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards. The award-winning journalist also stars in the Style Network's real-life romantic comedy Giuliana & Bill, which follows Giuliana and her husband Bill as they juggle high-profile careers and marriage while living apart on opposite coasts.
Giuliana, quite literally, lives in makeup and designer duds - which makes her the perfect candidate for a Spoiled Pretty profile. Read on for her favorite fashion finds and how she always manages to always look so cute and camera ready...
SP: When did your fascination with fashion and beauty begin?
GR: I have loved makeup since I was a little girl. I come from a stylish Italian family so we were allowed to wear makeup at a very young age. I would say I started wearing makeup in 7th grade and I have loved fashion since I was about 10 years old.
SP: What is your everyday beauty routine?
GR: I shoot every day, all year round, so I wear makeup from 8am to 10 pm at night. 14 hours straight!!! So my cleansing regimen is super important to me. In the morning, I wash my face with Patricia Wexler, MD Universal Cleansing Lotion. It is very mild and perfect for the morning. I use her moisturizer as well. It gives my skin a dewy and fresh look. At night I use DDF Blemish Cleansing Foam to wash off my makeup and keep my skin clear thanks to it's small dose of salicylic acid. I moisturize with Patricia Wexler's PM cream and use her eye cream as well. Then I put on ChapStick Fresh Effects before I go to bed to moisturize my lips. I am obsessed with Patricia Wexler's products and I do not endorse her in any way. In fact, I have never met or spoken to her in my life but I would love to so I can thank her for making my skin look so darn great!
As for makeup, I start with L'Oreal True Match Foundation. I use Lorac Blush/Bronzer in Hot & Spicy for a great glow. Then I line my lips with MAC liner and use ChapStick Fresh Effects Green Tea Mint before my lipgloss as the perfect base. It tingles while it moisturizes so I love using it.
SP: What are the five beauty products that you can't live without right now?
GR: I always have my Lorac bronzing blush for a nice glow and my ChapStick Fresh Effects. I love the tingle it gives me while it moisturizes my lips. I can't have chapped lips on the red carpet when I'm standing 6 inches from a celebs face so I love this product because it gives me an instant beauty boost and is an amazing base for lip gloss and lipstick. I love my Patricia Wexler, MD Universal Cleansing Lotion and Moisturizer to give me great skin. I am also loving fake lashes right now. I use Andrea or Ardell from the drugstore. I have learned how to put them on perfectly so now it only takes me a few minutes and gives me amazing eyes. Fake lashes are the secret to a gorgeous eye!
SP: What is your signature fragrance?
GR: My signature scent is Quelques Fleur. I've worn it since I was in high school. It's a classic scent that I have never gotten tired of. My fragrance philosophy is to look for scents that are clean. Guys don't like anything too floral or bold. They love a girl to smell like she just walked out of the shower- clean and fresh. I spray it all over as well as my hair to make it smell great when Bill comes in for a hug.
SP: What was your most embarrassing fashion or beauty moment?
GR: The zipper on my dress broke minutes before I was to walk out to the Oscar red carpet two years ago! Thankfully, my backup dress was in my stylist's car on the way back to the designer, so he grabbed it and I did a quick swap.
SP: How has your look evolved over the years?
GR: I constantly change my hair color...platinum blonde, dark brown, warm brown, honey blond...I love changing my hair color every year. It keeps things interesting.
SP: What fashion trends are you loving and embracing right now?
GR: I just bought a few men's blazers in black and navy blue. They are by MM Couture. Very affordable and super stylish. I've been wearing them with a simple neon or bright t-shirt over super tight LNA stretch pants and my new above the knee Balenciaga black leather boots. They are equestrian style with a four inch heel and are very fitted to the leg and tall. So hot!!! I just got two tight leather motorcycle jackets, one in black and one in turquoise from the clothing company Secret Circus out of London. Love!
SP: What tips do you have for women who want star style on a budget?
GR: Shop at H&M, Forever 21 and Express. There is no reason to spend a lot of money on trendy items.
SP: What are three fashion accessories every woman should own?
GR: Tall leather black boots, a great trench coat, and a big, long scarf.
SP: Current handbag obsession?
GR: I love my new gray woven leather Cole Haan bag. It just came out and it's the perfect size.
SP: If you could only use one brand of makeup for life, which would it be?
GR: MAC. Most of my makeup is from MAC. I wear makeup for up to 14 hours a day and MAC stays on my skin the longest.
SP: What’s the best beauty tip/secret you’ve ever heard?
GR: Moisturize! My mother is in her late 60s and looks 50! She has moisturized her entire body, especially her face, every day of her life and it shows!
